FEATURES A GOOD COLD CHAIN DATA LOGGER SHOULD HAVE

A cold chain data logger / Logtag, otherwise referred to as a temperature data logger, is a device that records and logs ambient and sub zero temperature and other data at set intervals over a period of time.

They should be compact, relatively inexpensive, and should be able to work reliably without any major infrastructure like data cable networks or fixed temperature probes.

Temperature loggers are growing in popularity, they’re widely used by businesses in industries where monitoring indoor environmental conditions, adjusting storage temperature, and controlling ambient conditions are essential — particularly when it comes to the storage of food or pharmaceutical products.

Battery-powered portable data loggers are growing in popularity as well, particularly because they’re an ideal solution to track and manage cold chain shipments in transit.

The best temperature data loggers have most (or all) of the following features, some of which are non-negotiable for optimum cold chain monitoring and management:

  • Continuous temperature monitoring.

  • Detailed time-stamped temperature logs.

  • Temperature excursion indicator (visual or via alerts).

  • Reliable storage and transfer of temperature data (internal memory, removable storage units, or cloud storage).

  • Easy data accessibility (through computers or smart devices).

  • Software or applications for reporting and analytics (either local installations or web-based systems).

  • Systems that are easy to set up, deploy, and use.

  • User instructions that are available by scanning QR code on data logger.

PIMM™ SuD (Supplier Delivery) accepts data on an in-time or real-time basis using the same User Interface. The user should choose the data logger that best supports their environment. For example, frozen loads can be monitored with a PIMM™ TAG or LogTag (In-Time Logger) vs. a more perishable sensitive product like produce or berries may be better suited for a PIMM™ AirTag (Real-Time Logger).

Real-Time Loggers like the PIMM™ AirTag and PIMM™ TMC provide an extra layer of quality and security by providing real-time notifications during transit. This allows the plant, carrier and distributor to have advanced warnings in order to initiate corrective actions during transit.

For sub zero temperatures such as the required -80C for some COVID-19 vaccines our PIMM Low Temp data logger has a recording range of +40C down to -80C making it ideal for this application.
